CCFMA receives startup grant from The New England Grassroots Environment Fund
 
The Canterbury Community Farmers Market Association (CCFMA) is proud to announce that it has just been awarded a grant from The New England Grassroots Environment Fund (NEGEF).  The NEGEF grant has been awarded to the the CCFMA for the purpose of funding start up costs associated with organizing and promoting the inaugural season of the farmers market in Canterbury.  The market will be open Wednesdays from June 13 to October 10, 2007 between 4pm and 7pm, next to the Elkins Town Library.
 
The mission of the New England Grassroots Environment Fund is to energize and nurture long-term civic engagement in local initiatives that create and maintain healthy, just, safe and environmentally sustainable communities. NEGEF's goals include:

 - Increase civic engagement, volunteerism, emerging leaders and community initiatives that create healthy, just, safe and environmentally sustainable communities at the neighborhood and town level in New England.
 - Help community leaders move single issue, backyard debates to positive, inclusive, systemic, constructive, and lasting community solutions.
 - Link community-based advocacy with the work of statewide and national organizations without losing local identity.
 - Establish and maintain informed networks of activists across the region that are committed to building a just and equitable society.

The Mission of the CCFMA is to:
- Foster a broader availability and variety of locally grown produce and agricultural
products, and increase consumer confidence in the quality, freshness and nutritional
value of these products.
 - Encourage sustainable farming in the Canterbury area by providing an alternative
marketplace for local growers and producers of agricultural commodities and other farmrelated
products.
 - Create opportunities for farmers and consumers to deal with each other directly,
advancing the consumer's knowledge of local agriculture and products, and providing
farmers with a better understanding of consumer needs.
 - Enhance the quality of life in the Canterbury area with a community activity that fosters
social gathering and interaction.
 - Preserve the Canterbury area's unique agricultural heritage.
